HOLIDAY INN ASHFORD – CENTRAL
This hotel has 17th-century features, combined with thoroughly modern facilities. It was transformed from a 17th-century barn nestling in the Kent countryside and is just a mile from Ashford town centre. Rustic wooden beams line the restaurant and there is a pleasant lounge and bar. All modern bedrooms are en-suite with TV, telephone, hairdryer, air conditioning and tea and coffee making facilities. No lift – only ground and 1st floor – ground floor rooms available.
SATURDAY: A morning departure you head south, with free tea and coffee during your journey, to the beautiful town of Canterbury where you can experience Canterbury’s history and heritage, see the stunning architecture and world famous buildings and maybe visit the magnificent Canterbury Cathedral. Transfer to your hotel in plenty of time for dinner.
SUNDAY: After a leisurely breakfast depart your hotel for a scenic journey through the Kent Countryside via Tenterden and Rye to Folkestone to check-in for your luxury journey on the Belmond British Pullman which is part of the Venice Simplon-Orient Express, the world’s most famous train. As you step aboard and are shown to your reserved armchair seats, you can marvel at your surroundings and the way that Royalty, Lords and Ladies used to travel in the 1920’s. When the train pulls out of the station at approx. 15.15 you can admire the gleaming, elegant carriages and you will be served with a glass of chilled exclusive Rose Wine and an Edwardian-style afternoon tea of sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam along with fruit tart and assorted tea fancies accompanied by a choice of Ceylon or China Tea. The journey will last around two hours. During your journey allow time to walk through the train. Each carriage is unique and has its own name and a fascinating history.
