Whitby, Richmond & Bilsdale

This tour covers a splendid variety of magnificent scenery and contrasting countryside, with quaint Yorkshire towns and villages. We also feature a ride on the Wensleydale Railway, as well as a boat trip on the Tees to Yarm.

ITINERARY

Monday: A morning departure travelling north to Darlington arriving late afternoon at the Blackwell Grange hotel where tea, coffee and biscuits are served on arrival. Dinner in hotel.

Tuesday: After breakfast we make our journey to Thirsk, the home of James Herriot where you will have free time before we take a ride on the ‘Wensleydale Railway’. This delightful little railway travels through really beautiful countryside. We continue onwards to Richmond, high above the River Swale where you’ll have free time to explore the town, museums and the houses from the set of “ All Creatures Great & Small”. Returning back to our hotel. Dinner in hotel.

Wednesday: After breakfast we make our way to Preston Park and Hall Museum. This attractive Parkland surrounds the museum, and in the museum itself you will find a delightful collection of memorabilia from times gone by, with large social history collections. Here you will have free time before we join the ‘Teesside Princess’ and take a gentle cruise on the River Tees through beautiful countryside to the cobbled town of Yarm, famous for its location on the River and the awe inspiring railway viaduct. We continue onwards through Bilsdale – ‘Little Switzerland” passing Rievaulx Abbey and Helmsley with its 12th century castle, taking our journey over the spectacular Sutton Bank, with fantastic views of the moors and across the Vale of York. Returning to our hotel. Dinner in hotel.

Thursday: After breakfast we make our way over the moors, across Blakey Ridge, through picturesque Hutton-le-Hole to Pickering. Here we join the North Yorkshire Moors Railway for a steam train journey through rugged moorland to Whitby, passing through Goathland. You’ll have free time in Whitby before returning to our hotel. Dinner in hotel.

Friday: After breakfast we make our journey home arriving at your agreed drop off point.
