Boughton House, Warwick, Royal Leamington Spa, Foxton Locks, Canal cruise & Great Central Railway

We are delighted to offer this tour based in a 4 star hotel – you visit Boughton House, Warwick and Royal Leamington Spa.
You also visit Foxton Locks and have the opportunity for a short canal cruise and take a nostalgic railway journey on the Great Central Railway from Leicester to Loughborough. A delightful weekend!

Boughton House Discover one of Britain’s grandest and best-preserved stately homes. As well as the splendours of the house, you can also enjoy the 18th-century landscaped gardens, woodlands and grand country park. At Boughton you can also see one of Britain’s most outstanding collections of

fine art, furniture, tapestries, porcelain and carpets. Visitors can view a magnificent range of paintings by great artists, including The Adoration of the Shepherds by El Greco, Gainsborough’s portrait of Mary Montagu, grisailles and portraits by Van Dyck, and Breaking Cover by John Wootton. Boughton also has some of the best-preserved baroque

State Rooms in the British Isles. Here you can walk through grand apartments of contrasting character decorated in extravagant yet elegant taste with the finest artworks of Boughton’s golden era.

Foxton Locks All the fun of the canals in the heart of rural South Leicestershire. Watch colourful narrowboats ascending the ‘staircase’ of ten locks as their crews turn paddles and heave gates open to move their boats up the hill. Discover wildlife in the side-ponds, find out about Foxton’s fascinating history at the museum, then take a short boat trip on the canal. Vagabond is an elegant vintage motor launch believed to be over 100 years old. It has a fixed roof and open sides, with wooden benches for seating (you might like to bring a cushion).

Great Central Railway Voted number 12 on the list of the 50 greatest railway journeys in the world the Great Central Railway is the UK’s only double track, main line heritage railway. It’s the only place in the world where full size steam engines can be seen passing each other – just as it was when steam ruled the rails
